In the presence of the Leader of People’s Association Nikolaos Michaloliakos and of the MPs Germenis, Zaroulia, Iliopoulos and Kasidiaris, as well as of numerous executives of the Movement, took place the launch of the book of Brigadier Panagiotis Stavroulopoulos, with the title: “Chronicles of the Battle of ELDYK 14-16/8/1974”.
The Political Party participated massively in this event, in order to honor the “father” of the Immortal ELDYK fighters (Hellenic Force in Cyprus), who repeated the epic of Thermopylae in Greek Cyprus.
Brigadier Stavroulopoulos, being a pure patriot and a humble Officer, moved the attendants, by paying tribute to his living and “immortal” sons, to his soldiers, to his courageous men, who fought like lions by his side, in an uneven fight with the turkish invaders, being abandoned by the treacherous government.
The salutations of the relatives and their references to their personal torment, as well as the indifference of the State, which they face for over decades, were equally thrilling.
Mr. Ioannis Kakolyris, a writer and former vice president of the Society of Greek Writers (EEL), deriving from the Greek Air Force, also made a speech, where he referred to the mistakes and the omissions of the politic and military leadership of that era.
Afterwards, the editor of the publication Kostas Dimitriadis made a speech, where he referred to the rigorous testimony of Brigadier Sravroulopoulos and noticed important points regarding the fight during the last two days in the camp of ELDYK.
Finally, the heroic commander, Brigadier –and a father, according to the soldiers who served under his commands- Panagiotis Stavroulopoulos, deeply moved, with tears in his eyes, talked about the battle, his soldiers, the abandonment by the leadership and about his great efforts to defend the camp, in order to evade the submission to the Turks, but also aspiring to save his soldiers-sons. With the end of this event, all the attendants chanted our National Anthem.
