Lampros Fountoulis, MEP of Golden Dawn, made an intervention during the meeting of the Employment Committee of the European Parliament. He referred to trade agreements where are signed or they’ll be signed, such as CETA and TTIP. He also referred to the enormous damage that will cause on Greek and European employees. In addition, he accused the Union of acting as an enforcer of multinationals’ interests, against the interests of Citizens.

Follows the full text of the intervention:

"CETA, as also TTIP are two sides of the same coin. Unfortunately in plenary, the majority voted against the examination of CETA at the European court for a legal review. Our assessment is that, new generation’s trade agreements, intend to transform the institutional framework for the benefit of multinationals. Also they affect many more sectors of our life, except the commercial sector, a referee system of private law firms configured so as to allow the impeachment of any national protective legislation and that would limit the types of multinational companies and would allow for legal claims from them. This agreement puts international commerce over democracy, the acquired rights of citizens, the environment, public health and it gives more authority to businesses and the multinational lobby, to bypass governments and the laws, if they consider that their interests are affected. Concerning our committee, there is nothing that could guarantee us the accretion of jobs, but the workers will see their rights to be further curtailed in the name of profit. The truth is that no one could know with certainty the benefits, but in many cases such financial agreements have led to job losses for example with the case of NAFTA between the US, Canada and Mexico. If CETA applied and the TTIP comes, they will cause the loss of more than one million jobs in Canada, USA and European Union."
