16/10/2016 21:41

The MEP with Golden Dawn, Lampros Fountoulis, made an intervention during the discussion in the Plenary of the European Parliament concerning food safety. He accused the Western governments of supporting the plans of the multinational corporations and the exploitation of every People on the Earth, with the goal of achieving the biggest possible profit. At the end, he demanded legislative action for a minimum obligatory percentage of autarchy for every member-state in the Union.

The full text of the intervention:

"We are in front of a major problem that unfortunately is going to be worse in the coming years. A very big percentage of the global population has not normal access to food and at the same time large quantities of food end up in the garbage every year in the Western world. Social injustice was always here and it will be. But, from our position we have to try with the maximum of our efforts to minimize it, in the Union and internationally. The global food market is aimed not to fulfilment of nutritional needs globally but to achieve the biggest possible profit and for that E.U., the member states’ governments and of course the structure of global economy have to be blamed. But humans are not numbers and balances. Lack of food creates many other problems and the multinational corporation do not care about them. Our proposal is to legislate an obligatory minimum percentage of food to be produced only inside the Union, which is going to benefit the European producers but also the production from third countries will be channelled to their People."
