Intervention in the European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg by Popular Association - Golden Dawn MEP, General Georgios Epitideios concerning Europe’s inability to address illegal immigration and Turkey's blackmail. At the EU priorities for the UNHRC sessions in 2016 (debate).
His speech follows:
“Thank you Mr. President.
The European Union is one of the largest players on the global chessboard with powers that significantly affect international developments. She therefore needs to work closely with the UN to handle the serious issues concerning the international community. One of these, the most serious and urgent, is immigration. To solve this problem, we must examine it with a pragmatic approach.
That doesn’t mean trying to accommodate the immigrants in Europe whilst not eliminating the causes of immigration in order to stop it. Additionally, we mustn’t only be concerned about the human rights of immigrants and then allow them to demonstrate delinquent behavior in the counties which host them. Furthermore, we gain nothing if we condemn the illegal movement and trafficking of people, but leave the illegal traffickers to act unchecked.
Finally, we show neither seriousness nor determination when we allow Turkey to thumb her nose at the European Union pretending that she supposedly wants to contribute to the solution of the immigration issue, and when tolerate her blackmailing us to accelerate the processes of her accession.
Thank you.”
