The Nationalists of E.LA.M. attended the annual commemoration of heroes Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou.
The memorial took place in the morning of 9 August, in the church of St. Demetrios in Paralimni.
E.LA.M.’s members with Greek flags in hands, paid tribute to the two men who in 1996 did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for freedom and national honor.
Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou participated in 1996 in a historical protest of condemnation of the puppet regime of the turkishcypriots, which was established after the illegal turkish invasion of our homeland in 1974.
Tassos Isaak was beaten brutally with stones and kicks, until death by turkishcypriots and turks, and Solomos Solomou was murdered by a bullet during an attempt to remove the turkish flag.
At the end of the memorial, the Nationalists marched through the main streets of Paralimni to the cemetery. They were received by a strong applause and cheers from the people who were gathered despite the unbearable heat.
The march in memory of the heroes was partly ruined by the presence of government’s representatives who spoke shamelessly in favor of the bizonal solution for the Cyprus problem but unfortunately for them they took the appropriate response and reaction from the crowd.
On behalf of our Movement, Linos Papayannis put a wreath under the applause of the people, unlike other political representatives who were strongly booed.
At the end of the commemoration the march was continued to the barricade of Deryneia, just a few meters away from where the heroes left their last breath in 1996.
There was a brief reference to the events of 1996 by Petros Kountoureshis, while our Movement delegation laid a wreath at the point of sacrifice of Tassos Isaak, in the buffer zone.
The event ended with Greek flags proudly waving and with the Nationalists singing our National Anthem.
