WE DO NOT FORGET! Event of Honor and Remembrance for the victims of the genocide of the Pontic Greeks - Photos/Videos
Hundreds of Nationalist protesters, predominantly members of the "Golden Dawn" political party gathered at Akriton Sea Square in the town of Acharnes on the National Day of Remembrance, Thursday to commemorate the day of the hundredth anniversary of the ethnic cleansing of Christian Pontic Greeks from their historic homeland of Anatolia.
Just like every year, the Greek Nationalists paid tribute to the victims of the Pontian Genocide by the bloodthirsty hordes of Turks.
The Pontic cleansing, as it is also known, took place in the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I, between 1914 and 1922. Some people took refuge in the Russian Empire. Commemorations have taken place on May 19 every year when hundreds of Greeks, especially from Pontus, Cappadocia, Ionia and Eastern Thrace were deported or executed. Between 450,000 and 750,000 people are believed to have died during the period.
Golden Dawn leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos laid a wreath at the monument honouring those who died.
The President of A.I.G.I.S. Thanassis Constantinou, through a brief history of the genocide revealed the heinous crimes of the Turks.
John Konstantinidis, representative of the Local Organization Acharnai - Kamatero, as a proud Pontian stressed that every Pontian continues strongly the National Struggle for the vindication of the ancestral sacrifice.
The MP of Attica Ilias Kasidiaris pointed that the Golden Dawn stays true to the slogan "NO to oblivion and submission" and keeps alive the flame of National Remembrance.
Under the applause of those present, the General Secretary of the Popular Association Golden Dawn, N. G. Michaloliakos started his speech.
The Leader of the Golden Dawn stressed that Pontic Greeks held high the national morale, never became Soviets and from that emanate the hatred and prosecutions against them.
He also recalled that Lenin's regime supported the Young Turks of Kemal with ammunition and money to carry out the persecution and the bloody genocide against the Pontic Greeks.
